The Best Thing About My Husband Being Deployed

The title must sound horrible. But there are always perks to when my husband is gone- whether its for a night of duty, a week underway, a month underway OR Deployment.

The best thing for me? Is being able to clean without worrying if I'm interrupting Call of Duty. Not having to dig under the bed for his dirty work socks to wash, Not having to worry about cleaning all the stubble that fills the sink after he shaves.

Yes, my husband is a slob. Although I LOVE cleaning.. He is damn near impossible to keep up with. I know, this is the part where some of you are saying, "Just wait until you have kids!". I know. I am screwed!

My husband has been gone a little over a week and my house is SO much cleaner.

However, I miss cooking and cleaning for him. He kept me busy! Although, I do have enough keeping me busy right now with my Photography, Tshirt designs and trying to take over the world. Ok, the last part is a joke. Or is it?

Another thing great about the husband being gone- I get to eat all the Chinese food I want! He loves Chinese food, but he only wants it every once and a while. I, however, cannot get enough of Lo Mein. It is like crack to me. I am not kidding. I've ate it twice this weekend.
I also get to eat Mexican food! My husband is a weird one. He won't eat beans. The ONLY bean he will eat is Green beans. I think he associates beans in everything with Mexican food. He won't even walk into a Mexican restaurant! So, The next several months.. Although I'm wanting to get in shape, I may just be the one who does the complete opposite. I see far too much Chinese and Mexican food during this deployment.

Don't get me wrong, I'd LOVE to have my husband home. BUT he's got a job to do and I'm not going to sit around and let it get the best of me. So, here's to Cleaning and TONS of Chinese and Mexican food!

  1. My hubs doesn't like beans either. I love me some mexican. I agree, the house usually does seem cleaner when they are gone. Except in my case, when he was deployed I was pregnant and well yea you can imagine.

  2. We have to look at the pluses to get through it. I like to say I enjoy the fact that there is less mess to clean as well. I also get more done because I know I am the only one to do it since he is not home to help.

  3. I agree, my house is almost spotless and he hasn't been gone long at all, gives me time to organize and file and bleach, etc. I also enjoy wearing sweats and looking like a mess on my day off :)

Thank you for your blogs, always brighten some of the gloomy deployment days.

  6. HAha! I love it! This is how I've been feeling since hubby left too! I only had to run the dishwasher once since he left! And laundry takes me only one afternoon instead of the entire weekend because of all his stinky uniforms!!! Thanks for writing it! It's exactly how I feel.

  7. I was just thinking today about how much work I do around the house now that he's on shore duty! Obviously I'd take him being home over being deployed, but you're right- there's way less to clean when they're gone. :)

  8. I get ya on that one lol. Let me see when hubby is away or deployed I get to watch what ever show I want without him changing the channel every 5 secs. Then I also get to cook stuff I like even though I do enjoy cooking what he likes as well its just that there are times he doesn't like my favorite foods.

  10. LOVE this post and completely agree with it. as much as you love them, as hard as it is to say goodbye to them, there are good things about them being gone.

personally -- I like that I have my afternoon nap back since my husband works nights, he wakes up when my daughter goes down for her nap... so I lose out on napping with her. :)

  11. I think we have to look at the bright side of having them gone to keep us sane.

For me it is tv...I can watch shows like Grey's Anatomy and Dancing with the Stars without commentary.

But like you if I had to choose between having him home or commentary free tv I'd take him home any day.
